Why choose leaf motor controller

Three years ago, leaf motor started to design controllers, manufacture controllers, test controllers, modify and re-test. Day by day. three years past, compare with other controllers, leaf three mode controllers are the best.

In market, there are square wave, sine wave, two kinds of brushless controllers that drive brushless with hall sensor motor.Every one knows, hall sensor is electronic component. It works in the rotating rotor. It’s easy to be broken.

If one hall sensor is broken, the electric bike can’t work. Need to replace hall, but it’s very hard to replace hall. Not easy. Replace the whole of winding rotor, it’s too expensive.

In past, leaf sell KT controller, met hall sensor issue, should replace the whole of winding rotor to customer.

The price for one hall sensor is less than $1USD
But, the whole of winding rotor over $100USD includes shipping cost.
Replace winding rotor waste too much.

Sine 2019,leaf motor started to manufacture theirselves controllers.
Leaf Brand New electric motor controller with Sine wave, Square wave, No hall, three modes compatible.

What are three modes?
* First mode: Sine Wave Status – Motor without noise,Very quiet !
If one of motor hall sensor is broken, controller still can work in Sine Wave Status.

* Second mode: Square wave Status – Motor with a little noise, < 60db, speed is about 8% faster than Sine Wave Status. If two of motor hall sensors are broken, controller can work in Square Wave Status. * Third mode: No hall Status - Motor with a little noise, < 60db, speed is about 8% faster than Sine Wave Status. If all of three hall sensors are broken, controller can work in No hall Status. If your motor's hall sensors are broken, don't need to replace hall sensors. Just use this controller that can recover your motor to work. If you don't know how to match motor wires to controller.  Just plug two blues together, controller into learning status and looking for correct working way. After 1-2 seconds, it can find correct working way, then disconnect these two blue wires' plugs. From now on,it always works with this kind of correct way.

48V 52V 1000W electric hub motor controller with LCD screen

48V 52V 1000W electric hub motor controller runs very well. It gives the performance we hoped for.

Nevertheless, we are struggling connecting the regen brake. I would very much appreciate if you could help us to figure out how those wires are to be connected in order to have the engine giving us regen brake when cruising downhill.

Let me summarize:
I assume the yellow, green and red colors represent the colors of the knobs on the switch for each function right?
We have managed to have cruise and reverse working, but we do now know how to connect the Regen brake to the switch to enjoy electronic brake from the motor.

There are 4 cables from the controller for those 3 functions:
Black
Green
Blue
Yellow

When we connect green cable to blue or black the cruise works.
When we connect yellow cable to blue or black the reverse works.

But how do we have the Regen Brake working?
Can you please what color of the cable is for the regen? (is it blue?) and what other color from those 4 should it be connected with to make it work please? Thank you.
I truly would appreciate your help, we do not need reverse on a bike, but the regen would be very welcome.
Thanks a lot, in advance for your help.

How to use three button switch?
1.We cut off that yellow wire. It’s for reverse/backward.This function is very dangerous for e-bike. If for e-tricycle,hope this reverse function, just re-connect this yellow wire.
(We cut off yellow wire.. so no reverse/backwards function for e-bike. If install motor on tricycle, also need this reverse function, please re-connect this yellow wire. Reverse works)
This yellow button be left / middle, motor works forward. Be right side, motor works backward / reverse… (Cut off blue wire,No reverse function)

2.Green button is used to control cruise, while motor is running, also over some speed, example: over 1/3 max speed,at this time, press green button one time, then loose throttle,LCD display “C”,motor will works the same speed. Re-press this green button one time or press brake lever or turn throttle to max, motor will stop.

3.Red button be up,regen on. Be down, regen off. This regen will charge battery while press brake lever (We cut off red wire..)No recommend use this function.

bldc motor for electric bike

Because of lower noise, more powerful, longer life. Now bldc motors are popular for electric bikes.

This motor can be easily built into a wheel hub, called brushless hub motor or done a chain drive, named stepper motor.Stepper motor is more powerful than brushless hub motor.

As all known, hub motor is easy to convert e-bike,but for bldc motor,it’s so easy to convert. You should use a chain to drive wheel.
We have three kinds of bldc motors. It aslo is made up of rotor winding, hall sensor, bearings, axis, gears.

Because of gear drive,it’s more powerful than common brushless hub motor.

7.1 pcs of φ140mm disk+adapter – what is it?,does it the disk braker?
motor speed – minimum value (for maximum speed) 20km/h (we don’t care if it will be more)
do you support in any we a super-controller to support all 4 motors/controllers?
Answer 1:
That’s disk+clipper.
Answer 2:
There are two types of disk for e-bike.One is dia.=φ140mm,the other is φ160mm.
Generally 140 mm disk is fit for rear wheel and 160mm is fit for front wheel.
Answer 3:
36V 250W brushless geared motor is popular in Europe, but in North America, people like 36V 750W hub motor more.More and more people order and enjoy these two types of DC hub motors,we called them classic electric bike motors.

Compare to use a chain drive system, these days convert bicycle with a new motorized wheel is much easier.Remove your front or rear wheel, use this hub motor wheel to replace, done it in 5 minutes.

140mm disk can installed on rear motor and 160mm for front motor.
Now all of our rear motors and hbm-011 front electric bike motor can mounted on disk, but hbm-front gearless motor and hbl-front motor can’t installed disk.
The thickness of these 140mm and 160mm is 2mm.

BMX 20 inch 1500W rear hub motor kit

Q: I will be purchasing the your BMX 1500W rear hub motor kit. Before I go ahead could you please help with the following information.

1. What is the expected delivery time to the UK with the current covid 19 pandemic in the UK in terms courier entry to the UK?

2. What amp battery would I require?

3. Would my Saracen amplitude (steel frame) need re-enforcing to handle the power? ……In your opinion as I understand this is a difficult question to answer.

A: 1. about 10 days now. (It’s faster than last month)
2. 40amp or 50amp battery
3. if install hub motor on frame very strong, very well..No looseness — No problem (We will make wheel works in the line. Shake is less than 0.5mm from left & right.. shake is less than 1mm from up to down)

Q: Okay well my best option is to purchase a customized battery from you, as you best know the requirements for the kit you sold me…..

1. For clarity the following battery is the product I need to order? –
52V 12ah lithium battery –
Item ID #LBB521B
£335.75?
& You will customize as per your knowledge of my requirements?

1b. This battery is designed to attach to the Bottle holder screws I believe? As it’s being attached to the Top Bar of the BMX (under the riders knees) laying from back to front of bike,  A BMX does not have these bottle holder screws.

Do you sell a bracket that I can use to attach the battery without using Bottle holder screws?

Or know if possible to add those type of screws to the frame of my BMX?

2. Also my precious kit purchase added around £150 for important fees…..
Will this battery have added import fees? —as not added until final till checkout on site.

3. Do you sell a Torque arm that is compatible with my BMX hub because I want to further secure the wheel hub to the frame?

4. Could you offer my any additional discount? on battery and (Torque arm + battery bracket if you can supply) as offering repeat business associated with Hub purchase.

Thank you for excellent customer service I will be sure to leave an amazing Review on your website.

20 inch 48v 52v front hub motor diy bike conversion kits question

Q: Hello! I have been viewing your various 20″ 48v/52v front hub motor diy bike conversion kits and I have a couple of questions.

1) Is there a way to install a disc brake rotor somehow next to the hub motor and still function properly? If so, can you tell me maximum rotor size allowed for these kits?

2) What type of battery would you recommend for a 48v/52v front hub motor kit like this?

Thank you very much for your time and assistance regarding this matter.

A: 1.) Can install a disk on this 20 inch 1000w or 1500w front hub motor… but the front dropout should be 105mm or 110mm..
Standard front dropout is about 100mm..

So if the dropout can’t be larger, can’t use disk on front motor.

2.) We recommend 52v 20ah lithium battery.
https://www.leafbike.com/products/lithium-battery/52v-20ah-1500w-electric-bike-battery-triangle-battery-1225.html

Q: Thank you very much for your quick response. Do you know what the maximum disc brake rotor size I would be allowed to install next to motor? Thank you again.

A: We installed max 160mm

Below picture.
The dia. of two holes for disk is 44m…
If your 180mm 203mm,  aslo 44mm… You can install 180mm, 203mm disk

Q:
I forgot to ask you one last thing before making a final decision on a front hub motor kit. I know you said you are not able to ship the recommended 52v 20ah battery to Japan, but can you recommend a charger to go with this type of battery? Thank you again for all of your help and assistance.

I just noticed the charger that comes with the 52v 20ah li battery, so I can look for battery/charger here in Japan. But, do you have in stock just the frame bag for holding this type of battery?

Not sure it’s 27.5 or 29 inch bike conversion kit

Q: Good evening. I was referred to your shop from someone on a forum, and I’m hoping you can help me. I’m looking to convert my Trail 8 bike to a rear-wheel electric. I have very little understanding of mechanics, bike parts, and measurements so finding a kit that is the right size for my bike has been very difficult. I am confident that I can install the kit if I have the right one. If you don’t mind could you please have a look at my bike’s specifications and tell me which specific kit will fit my bike? I’m very motivated to purchase one. Thank you!

A: Not sure it’s 27.5″ or 29 inch? (27.5 inch rim is smaller than 29 inch rim)

If tire size is 29 x 2.25″ — All of our 29 inch hub motor kits are fit for this tire.

How to choose bike conversion kit?
1. Check tire size, there is some words on tire (from picture,we can’t find tire size)
For example: if there is  29 x 2.25″

29 inch wheel size, 2.25″ is tire width…
All of our 29 inch hub motor fit for this 29 x 2.25″ tire

2. check front or rear fork width
For example: the dropout of this bike is 135mm (can’t find this info on your link)
All of our rear hub motor kits with max 7 speed fit for this 135mm rear dropout
(If you hope install 8 speed,9 speed.. the dropout should be a little larger than 135mm, if fork dropout can be a little large, to be 140mm, install 8 speed,9 speed on our rear hub motor is no problem)

Generally just 1 & 2 both fit for.. mount this hub motor kit to your bike is no problem.

(Nearly all of this kind bike’s rear dropout is 135mm or a little larger.. install is no problem)

21 speed is okay.
Front is 3 speed, rear is 7 speed..

Our 29 inch rear hub motor with 7 speed is fit for standard 135mm dropout.

(Some bike rear has 8 speed or 9 speed..)

Q: Ah okay I think I get it now. Sorry for my questions this is out of my knowledge area. So it looks like https://www.leafbike.com/products/diy-bike-conversion-kit/29-inch-48v-52v-1500w-rear-wheel-electric-hub-motor-kit-1065.html is going to be the one for me. I’ll make sure on that fork size tomorrow and check with my bike shop if they think the dropouts are sturdy enough. Just a couple more questions – do you have a 48V battery recommendation? And there an installation guide with the kit?
