replace hall sensor for 750w hub motor

The hall sensor is a transducer that varies its output voltage in response to a magnetic field. Hall sensors are used for proximity switching, positioning, speed detection, and current sensing applications. Three phase bike motor has three hall sensors inside that are used for electric bike widely.

36V 250W brushless geared motor is popular in Europe, but in North America, people like 36V 750W hub motor more. More and more people order and enjoy these two types of DC hub motors that are called classic electric bike motors. Now they have received by most of customers because of good quality.

But when ride this hub motor bike and climb hill for a long time. Sometimes over current or over head will break motor controller’s MOSFET or hall sensor.

Hall sensor is broken. The hub motor can’t work. Unless your controller can drive sensor-less motor. Buy a new motor, cost more.

Replace hall sensor, cost less. Below we first instruct one type of 750w electric bike motor .

If hall sensor is broken, power on battery, you will find battery gauge works, horn works, lights work, everything is good, except when you turn your throttle, the hub motor wheel can’t run.

Step 1:
Retest this hub motor and make sure it does be broken. Do you have voltmeter?
Still connect all wires and power on.

First measure 6-pin hall sensor plug, the voltage as below:
1.The voltage of red and black is about 4.5V;
2.The voltage of yellow and black is about 4.5V or 0V;(use hand to turn hub motor, the voltage will change from 0V-4.5V)
3.The voltage of green and black is about 4.5V or 0V;(use hand to turn hub motor, the voltage will change from 0V-4.5V)
4.The voltage of blue and black is about 0V or 4.5(use hand to turn hub motor, the voltage will change from 4.5V-0V)
If you can get above data it’s no problem with bike conversion kit system. If the voltage of Item 2 (yellow and black wires)can’t change from 0V-4.5V,Please replace this hall has a yellow wire connect.

You should prepare some tools and material:
1.Hexagon wrench (Necessary)
2.Hammer (Necessary)
3.Screwdriver
4.electric iron
5.A-B glue
6.insulated paper, insulated wire
7.scissors
8.New hall sensor

Step 2:
Take off nuts and gasket on axis and use hexagon wrench to loose 16 screws.

Step 3:
Make the electric bike motor stand and cable is bent inside. Left hand hold the hub motor and use hammer to knock the axis.

Step 4:
After some knock, the cover will take off hub.

Step 5:
Use the same way to knock the other axis, the other cover will also take off hub.

Step 6:
When both side covers are off hub, next we should take out the rotor-winding. Make the axis stands on the ground, both hands press hub motor, the rotor-winding will out of hub.

Step 7:
There are three hall sensor in three grooves around the rotor.
Use scissors to remove insulated wire and insulated paper. You will find 9-pin(three hall sensor)connect to PCB on rotor-winding. Each hall has three pin: 1:+ , 2:- ; 3:signal
For example:
Hall A: 1:+ , 2:- ; 3:Yellow wire
Hall B: 1:+ , 2:- ; 3:Blue wire
Hall C: 1:+ , 2:- ; 3:Green wire

Step 8:
Just now had known yellow wire hall sensor was broken. Please use electric iron to remove Hall A and use A-B glue to fix new hall sensor. Use insulated paper, insulated wire to fix PCB. Then re-build this hub motor.

Step 9:
Test as step 1.If can get the data from each hall sensor. Congratulate.

Power on battery, the hub motor wheel works.

Look for an Electric motorcycle motor kit

I just bought a gas moped (49cc) and plan to convert it to electric with your electric motorcycle kit. It looks like I’ll need at least 1500W rear hub motor, although I’m willing to go higher if needed (2000W?). Someone on a forum indicated that you do custom windings and I should reach out to you, but I’m not an engineer and can only describe how I’ll use the moped – I can’t offer what specs are best, or if this is within what you can offer.

I would prefer a solid wheel (no spokes) but on your site those only go to 1000W?

The original moped rear wheel is 17″ with a M62 3-17 tire. I haven’t removed the tire to get the exact fork distance, but I think it is around 175mm

I don’t need a high top speed, 20 mph maximum and mostly I will be in the 0-10 mph range. However, it will be constantly going up and down hills, including several hundred feet of about 15 degree incline. So, I need good low-speed torque.

I weigh about 200 lbs, and the moped (and the tools I’ll be carrying) adds another 100-150 lbs.

This will never be used on public roadways, only on my farm. I live in the USA.

I haven’t started looking at controllers or batteries yet.  My first step is to identify the best hub motor option, then I can worry about the rest.

I’d prefer a 17 inch casted electric motorcycle hub motor if I can get one with enough power / torque at low speed.

Bike Motor and Battery Wheel Hub

As I called about,  was wondering about the electric front bicycle wheels you had. Can one buy either a bike motor or would buying an entire front wheel with a motor already included ?
If I got a bike motor for the front wheel of a mountain bike, say as an example,  Model:HBL-16,  exalt how would this be inserted into the existing spokes of the center of the wheel ?
Whether the entire motorized front wheel can be bought or just the front wheel hub motor, how do the controls with a front wheel differ from a back wheel motor ?
How water proof are these motor hubs ?  How long does a motor of 36V/48V and 750W/1000W  they take to fully charge and how long would the charge last ?

The options of Shipping seem fine, though I am not a whole-seller, so I assume I can buy just one or two items at a time. I also do not use paypal, what other methods of payment may I use ?

Your E-bike company may just be what I’ve been looking for a while now, though I have a least another set of questions before I attempt to make a purchase to ship over.
I’m still having some troubles determining on your website exactly the difference between which motor hubs are for the front vs the back wheels.
I only want to get the front wheel set up at the moment, though ultimately the back wheel motor I’m guessing should have a little more power than the front wheel,
or should it be eventually an equally balanced between the front and the back wheel ?  (maybe I should go for a 24 to 36 volt in the front and a 36 to 48 reserved for the back.

You’re right when you point out that I should have the necessary kit accessories set-up to go with the front bike motor, such as a battery which I hope to mount somewhere
in-between the bike’s triangle bars, which I will also need a mount bracket for the battery I assume., along with a speed controller and If my existing gears won’t do the trick,
then maybe special gear shifts added to the package. I don’t know if I want get the entire front and back conversion kit at this time, unless it  would be a bit cheaper and easier
to buy the front and the back as a whole set with the accessories, as I can always leave the back wheel mechanism in my closet for a time and just install the front motor.

You say most of your motor hubs are fairly rain proof but not exactly mud puddle proof ?  Same I guess would go for the Battery cases.

I will check things over again on your site along with the shipping arrangements, but I may still have to call you to confirm my slight back vs front wheel confusion.

I may still buy both the front and back wheel hubs, along with whatever else is needed. As long as they could be put together separately, though that may require two separate
batteries or is one battery good enough for both wheels ?  However, I was wondering just as a kick-start, you wouldn’t happen to have a front wheel-Hub with the battery included
within the wheel motor case itself as part of a front wheel ?   (This isn’t what a Motor:brushless hub is, about is it, a battery contained within the wheel motor hub itself ?

I have a 16 hub motor with leaf bike on the rim

I need to know what voltage is used by the 16 inch hub motor. When it was running on a trike that I no longer have, I think it was a 24v hub motor
Can you confirm that it is a 24v hub motor or is there someway to determine what the voltage and wattage is?
If so, would you be able to sell me the appropriate controller for that hub motor?
MY SECOND MESSAGE slightly expanded:

I need to know what voltage is used by my 16″ hub motor.

Is there someway to determine what the voltage and wattage is? Also, is
that hub motor brushless and gearless?

Given that it is a Leafbike.com/Leafmotor.com hub motor, would you be
able to sell me the appropriate controller for that hub motor?

On your
16 inch 48V / 52V 1000W front scooter motor kit Item ID #LBCK16481000FNL page you show a controller for the 16 inch hub motor. What would be the
cost of the controller – the controller only? I do not want or need the
other parts.

Please tell me how to pay using VISA or PayPal. Kindly send me an invoice for 24V 250W electric bike motor controller, and I will pay with a VISA debit card.

I thought that I ordered a 24v controller for $112.00 which included a faster delivery, BUT when I tried to find the order on “My Account” I could not find it. Your “Live Chat” link would not work. If it had, I would have used it. Please advise regarding my order for the 24v controller.

Will you kindly tell me what color wires are wired to the thumb drive?
I am using a 24v front hub motor

I am so pleased you answered so promptly. However, I am having trouble understanding your description. Would it be possible to send my a drawing or diagram showing all the wires from the controller and where they are going?

All I need is the color of the wires going to the 16″ front hub motor, the battery, and most important, to the thumb throttle.
I am attaching and embedding modified photo from your website. I you could simply label the wire colors and return to me?

High power motors

I have tested the new wheels and the performance from them is perfect.

I have tried them in my bike that has the 24″ 48v1000w rear wheel that I bought from leafmotor in July 2010. This bike has 48v Lifepo4 battery and max speed is 36km/h with the July 2010 motor.
When I put the new 26″ 48v1000w wheel in this bike max speed is 50 km/h.
Then I tried the 26″ wheel in another bike also with another 48v Lifepo4 battery and the performance is also good.
I am interested to find the answer. I dis-assembled the new 26″ hub and the old July 2010 24″ hub and swapped the axle and windings from each motor, re-assembled them and tested again. The 26″ wheel now has 39km/h max speed and the old 24″ is 46km/h.

This tells us that the axle windings in each of the new wheels have much higher power capability than the older wheel.

Actually old hub motor and new hub are the same cost.
Everything is no changed, the same hub,the same rotor, the same magnet, except coil wires.
Change the gauge of the coil wires and/or the turns number of the coils can adjust motor speed, power etc.
Old hub motor is standard motor,it’s fit for US transportation law.26″ 36V 750W, the speed is 20 miles/hour.
If need extra speed, power etc..We can customize as your need.

I am also satisfactory with my bicycle.
18″ 48V 1000W hub motor speed:17 miles/hour

High power performance motor doesn’t depend on speed or power, but customers’ need, law allowed.

My 48V 15-MOS-FET brushless controller drive 700c 48V 1000W electric bike motor, has enough power to climb hill.

This is a reliable hub motor, never meet any problem in 1 year.

I ordered the same motor(hbl 36V 750W hub motor) last month and repeat testing it,perfect.

Not surprising. This electric motor is ripe product and used for e-bikes widely in China.Anywhere you can find this kind of hub motor in China.
You did make a good choice and ordered ripe motor. It’s better than internal control motor. That kind the controller is built inside the motor, because of high temp, easy to break controller. If the internal controller is broken, all system is dead, should replace controller and motor together.

After repaired this hub motor by myself as instructions shown on this forum.I am much better to like this motor, like leafmotor’s forum.

Received my 700c 48V 1000W electric bike kit two weeks ago and took 1 day to done installation.Ride it per day,be satisfying with motor powerful

This is brushless gearless high speed motor, compare to brushless geared motor. The second one has more powerful, but with a little gear noise. Now 750w and 1000w brushless geared hub motors can’t find in market. Most of geared motors are 250w.

We always think faster, better. But because of local law for ebike so that we can’t ride high power motor bike.
I received 36V 750W hub motor,then make a label ” 36V 500W” on it.

From you test, you think faster speed motor is more powerful, actually you are wrong.
Estimate motor performance:faster speed,less powerful,slower,more powerful.

About motor speed, power,I think leafmotor can customize it according as customers’ actual need.

Some noise from rim or hub

Q:After running for a couple of weeks.Sometime you can find there is some noise from bicycle rim while you are riding.

A:Now you should check spoke nipple. If can’t find 36 pcs nipple on spokes. There must be some nipples inside the rim,if not, maybe some aluminium impurity.

Solve:Disconnect your hub motor wheel from your e-bike,remove the tyre, you will find there is a red gasket round the rim, also take it off. Then make the valve hole down, shake rim,the impurity will be out of the rim.Re-install them.

Solve this noisy problem.

Advice: We suggest after running several days, had better to tight 36 pcs nipples.

Q:Can you help me?I am very disappointment.
I ordered a motor from the other supplier, the HBS36F — Front Motor.Sent several emails, haven’t gotten any reply in 2 weeks.

I have just tested it and it makes a noise once every turn and it gets stuck (or at least much more friction) at the same angle. It feels like it could be some magnetic effect but more likely it´s some mechanical contact that´s disturbing the rotation. Have you heard of this problem before or is the electric bike motor constructed to act like this? Could we do something to fix it, like open it up and remove whatever that´s making the noise?

A:The noise comes from some metal impurity on the magnet.

Solve: Disconnect hub and remove it

electric bike hub motor

Hub motor is an electric bike motor that is an important part for electric bike.A common bicycle with a motorized wheel(hub motor) is an electric bicycle.

1.According as your size of rim,it has 6″ 8″ 10″ 12″ 14″ 16″ 18″ casting hub motors and 20″ 24″ 26″ 700c and 28″ electric bike hub motors
From 6″ to 18″,the rims are much smaller,so always casting hub.And used for electric scooters, electric tricycles, sometimes also used for folding electric bicycles.
From 20″ to 28″,because of rims are much bigger, always use spokes to fit.And used for electric bicycles.

2.According as whether has “brush”,it has two type:brushless hub motor and brushed hub motor
Brushless hub motor is make up of aluminium hub, aluminium covers, axis, bearings, copper winding, rotor, hall sensor..
Brushed hub motor is make up of aluminium hub, aluminium covers, axis, bearings, gear box(several gears inside),printed copper slice, two pcs of brushes..

The brushless hub motor’s principle:electromagnetic fields are supplied to the stationary copper windings of the motor. The hub(outer part of the motor)follows, turning the attached wheel.

The brushed hub motor’s principle:energy is transferred by brushes contacting the rotating shaft of the motor that drive gears, then drive hub.

Compare them:
Noise Efficiency Torque Use-life
1.brushless hub motor: √ >78% √ >3-Year
2.brushed hub motor: a little noise <70% a little larger replace "brush" in 2 year With the advantage of brushless hub motor,it used for electric bike widely. According as use,it also called electric bike motor. According as current,it has ac and dc hub motor. But nearly all of hub motors are direct current(DC).

electric hub motor for e-motorcycle

Motorcycle is fast,exciting.

Traditional motorcycles use gasoline and newer versions like the run on electricity. When start, should swap shift from NO.1 to NO.5.It takes more than 10s to reach 80m/h and makes a lot of noise.
Use leafmotor’s blw-16b electric hub motor.Reach 80m/h,it just take 5s without any noise.

This hub motor is make up of aluminium hub, cover, magnet, rotor, winding, axis etc.The net weight is about 13.5kg,use 16×2.5″tyre,load approximate 500lb.Motor speed,we can customize according as your actually need.

Gasoline engine need to replace machine oil termly, but this electric hub motor doesn’t need to service.

Calculate cost as 30 miles per day
1.Replace machine oil each month,12 times per year. The price for each bottle of machine oil is $20USD. 30 miles per day use 0.5 gallon,it costs $2USD/day.Total price:$970USD/year,$1940USD/two years.
2.Use electric motorcycle,charge battery everyday cost $0.2USD/per day.Total price:$73USD/year,$146USD/two year.

Two years later,replace 1 pcs of new 48V or 72V lead-acid battery,it costs less than $500USD.
Choose electric hub motor for your motorcycle,it save $647USD/per year.

In order to have a good environment, please ride e-motorcycle.

Request of info about your hub motors

Q:I’m planning to start a small production of electric vehicles and I’m evaluating your products.
I would like you to clarify the following details:
1) I read the performance data of HBL motor 24V/300W-36V/750W-48V/1000W, are these data referring to the same physical motor ?
2) What are the physical differencies between HBL-36F1 / HBL-36F2 / HBL-48F ? I noticed that the weight is the same, is the gauge of the coil wires and/or the turns number of the coils different for each motor ?
3) Are HBL motors equipped with internal position sensors ?
4) Besides 14/16/18″ can you supply also 20″ aluminium casted rims for HBL motors ?

A:Thank you for you are interested in our electric bike motor. You are very professional.
About the first and the second question, you are right, these performance datas come from the same motor. No difference.
About the third question,HBL is brushless gearless motor with internal hall sensor.
About the fourth question,in past we had this 20″ aluminium casted rims for HBL motors.
Now no body use this 20″ hub motor,so we don’t manufacture this kind of motor.
HBL-36F1/HBL-F2/HBL-48F these three kinds of motor,if they have differences that come from the gauge of the coil wires and/or the turns number of the coils.

BTW,if you hope get other performance about this hub motor, for example:faster, slower, more power at the highest efficiency point. We can customize according as your order.
