E-bike Not work – electric controller issue or hub motor?

Riding an electric bike is a funny thing.Sometimes, while riding happily,it stop working and can’t re-start.
If you think your lithium battery is new, can’t cause this issue. Now you should check controller or bike motor, how to check?

If you have volt meter, you could measure as below? So that you can make sure the problem comes from controller or motor
If you can get the same data as below 1, that means controller’s everything is good
If you can’t get the same data as below 2,some hall senor has problem.

1. Connect all wires, power on.Just disconnect that white big plug with five wires( yellow, blue, green, red, black)
Then measure controller’s hall sensor:
* The voltage of red and black is about 5.0V
* The voltage of yellow and black is about 5.0V
* The voltage of blue and black is about 5.0V
* The voltage of green and black is about 5.0V

—————————————————————————–
2 Connect all wires, power on.Also, connect that white big plug with five wires( yellow, blue, green, red, black)
Then measure motor’s hall sensor:
* The voltage of red and black is about 4.5V
* The voltage of yellow and black is about 4.5V or 0V (when use hand to turn motor, the voltage will change from 4.5V-0V-4.5V-0V)
* The voltage of blue and black is about 4.5V or 0v (when use hand to turn motor, the voltage will change from 4.5V-0V-4.5V-0V)
* The voltage of green and black is about 0V or 4.5V (when use hand to turn motor, the voltage will change from 4.5V-0V-4.5V-0V)

My 26 inch rear electric hub motor kit works

Q: Received my 26 inch rear electric bike kit. Finally managed to get it all working. The LCD display does not go over 20 mph ? Can you think why?

A: Do you make you hub motor “reverse”?

* If you make the three button switch to be “R”, bike motor will be reverse, the speed is slow. Make to “L”, bike motor will be forward.

Q:I have disconnected the three button switch and now seems to be working. The display when the ebike is in use does not go above 20 mph. does the display after you have set the mph/kmh mean ? It says p1, p2,p3,p4 and p5. What are the correct settings for these ?

A:Your electric bike kit can reach 40 mph without load, we test it. Even if you ride, still can reach about 35mph.
Please set the wheel size to be “26” It’s wheel size.
* Power on, turn on LCD, then press “up” and “down” button for 2 second together.
1. Then max speed will flashing. Make it to be max 72kmh.
2. Then “kmh or mph” will flashing. Press “up” or “down” to shift from “kmh” to “mph”. Then press “ON /in the middle of button” to done setting.
3. Then “wheel size,8,10,12,14,16,18,22,24,26,700 or 28” will flashing. Press “up” or “down” to shift. Make it to be “26” Then press “ON /in the middle of button” to done setting.

* After setting these 1,2,3. Then press “ON /in the middle of button” for 2 second. It will save these setting.
* After setting these 1,2,3.Then press “UP” and “Down” switches. Then start to set P1,P2,P3..

Don’t set P1,P2,P3,P4,P5
If make a mistake.

Please set it as below:

P1:46 (This hub motor has 46 pcs magnet, can’t set to other,it’s used to display correct speed)
P2:0 (That is low speed motor — without gears inside motor)
P3:1 (With pedal assist)
P4:0 (Start from 0 speed)
P5:15 (24V be 9; 36V be 12; 48V be 15)

Q: Great. After setting this P1, the hub motor works well. Correct, 40mph. Nice electric bike kit.

20 inch 1000watt or 1500watt front electric hub motor kit

Q: I want to purchase a 20 inch electric bike kit front wheel for my rickshaw, I only ride it with my twin boys they are 3 years old. I obviously don’t want anything with a great top speed I and simply looking for some assistance on hills. From your 1000 watt hub motor wheels listed, it looks like your older design model has a top speed of 30mph so I am thinking that probably has the best gearing not the newer version which show 45mph. The 1500 watt hub motor motor appeals but again same thing only shows with high top speed 45mph…Can you please suggest the best front wheel electric bike kit for me. It has to be 20″ and
has a standard 100mm wide fork.

A: Our new version hub motor also have low speed. Also 1500w motor has low speed. You just tell us what speed would you like, we can do it for you.Our 20 inch front hub motor is fit for 100mm wide fork. Also we have 1500w front.

Q: then I would prefer to order the 1500watt hub motor, do you offer that in the 20 inch with cast hub or only spokes as can’t see 1500watt with cast hub listed. I assume the cast hub would be stronger than the spoke version and therefore better for rickshaw.

A: We have 20 inch spokes 1000w & 1500w front hub motor.We have these motors in stock.But caste hub,only 1000w,don’t have 1500 casted hub.

Q: I am still keen to go with the 1500 hub motor but the spoke version is has quite a narrow rim.I don’t suppose you could fit it with a wider rim, so I can use a 2 1/4″ or 2 1/2″ tyre or bigger would be now problem if you have them.Your standard rim states 1.5 – 1.95″ tyre which is a little small I want use a moped tyre because of weight on rickshaw and they are mostly all bigger than your standard rim.

Technical problem with a 20 inch 48V 1000W bike kit – problem solved

Today I hit in a technical problem with the 20inch 48V 1000W bike conversion kit (Item ID:#LBCK20481000FN). I was riding for a shorter distance steep uphill in level 5 and suddenly the bike motor was making an obscure humming sound and was vibrating very strong. So I stopped immediately and shut down the system. I checked the hub motor and the cable for overheating but they where just with normal temperature. After a while, I already turned to go back downhill, I started the system again but the problem still exists. It seems that it is maybe a problem with the controller because now there is no reaction in changing the power level (1-5) or turning the throttle on. The hub motor gets only around 10 Amps with a max. of 590W (measured with a installed Amp/Volt meter in between). When starting pedaling or with the throttle with low speed the vibrations are immense but when I gain more speed the vibrations are reducing to a lower level but they are still there. When staying still and pull the throttle full, so the tire normally can spin free, only the vibrations and a loud humming sound exists. I know I do not have any warranty more leftover on this system but maybe you have an idea how I can repair this for a budget price.

I already solved the bike conversion kit system problem.
Funny what unexpected small things could cause some different technical reactions. The problem of the bike conversion kit problem above was, that one of the 3 phase cables to the motor was broken. By the effect of the depicted problems above I really thought that something in the controller was burnt-out but happily I could find the broken cable very soon so now everything
works fine again.

Buy an electric hub motor kit

I’m very interested in buying an electric bike kit as soon as possible for my bicycle (26 inch rim )and I found your page but I would like to know about all the models you’ve got from the smallest to the biggest and strongest ;and THE PRICES of these and all the specifications:
speed (km/h)

26 inch electric hub motor kit for the dropout 160mm fork

Q: Are you able to supply a rear hub motor kit wheel (36v @ 500W – 750w) for a rear dropout of 160mm?
I have an existing e-bike that uses a 250w geared rear hub drive on a 26 x 1.95 wheel.
It has a 7 speed gear, standard 160mm disk brake and a bike mount (frame) width of 160mm.
I would be happy to go from a geared (small hub) to the larger electric bike motor kit type.
The existing bike frame is steel (not carbon or an alloy) so I may be able to ‘bend’ the rear forks… (fit).
I have included a PDF diagram (attached) to show the existing rear hub motor fitting size.

A: Yes, we have dropout of 160mm 36V 750W electric bike motor.

Q: With the new Leaf controller and LCD, I know I can limit the maximum output speed of the 750w Direct Drive hub motor to a set (safe) maximum speed for each PAS mode 1 – 5.
With our Australian laws, I want to honor speed and safety – yet have a safe speed and torque (reserved) for hills.
I respect that you have kindly supplied my order with a 320RPM hub motor ( a good choice).
My question is: “Does the max speed by set by LCD / Controller economically limit the maximum current sent to the hub motor”?
I am talking here about battery life with a low speed LCD / Controller setting ‘modulating’ the full power sent to the hub motor.
So if I program the setting to say 25Km/h, then is the torque output effected at speeds less than the given 25Km/h?

A: Yes, if you set max 25kmh by LCD, motor will work less than 25kmh.(You can set max 10kmh,11kmh,12kmh….48kmh,49kmh,50kmh)

1.Press “SW” from LCD. Turn on LCD
2.Press “up” &”down” together for more than 2 seconds in 3 seconds after LCD display – Then “72” will flash.
3.Press “down” or “up” to set any max speed. Press “SW” one time to save. Then “26” will flash. It’s tire size. Don’t set. Still press “SW” one time to save. Then “kmh / mph” will flash. Don’t set. Press “SW” one time to save.
4.At last, press “SW” more than 2 seconds, then will be back.

There is a Three button switch inside parcel.

** Black switch (be Left side / Middle – motor works forward. Be right side, motor works backward/reverse)
** Red switch (Be left side / regen off. Be right side / regen on)
** Green switch ( When motor is working, press this green switch one time. LCD is display C, motor will work as the same speed) – Re-press this green switch one time, or press brake lever, turn throttle to max, motor will stop.

Abstract: A crystal by controlling the frequency control to achieve a level, no level adjustment in the electric tricycle china installation and large-scale mine owners bldc motor in the application.
Keywords: three-conversion,electric tricycle china installation

Specificity due to the production of coal, the mine ventilation system related to mine safety in production, so the ventilation system in the coal production has a pivotal position. As long supply line, starting pressure drop, maximum protection devices for safe and reliable start-up and standby bldc motor starter switch, the top priority is to enhance the system reliability. Yangquan Coal Mine in NZ in November 2006, new investment and operation of the main fan bldc motor for the GAF-type axial bldc motor (check the bldc motor by the largest coal mine in Asia through bldc motor controller). The main fan motor 10KV 5000KW bldc motor asynchronous motor. In order to better address the project encountered in starting the impact on the grid, and the problem of load impact, the system used by the Liaoning Rongxin Power Electronic Co., Ltd production of three self-developed high-voltage electric tricycle china frequency equipment.

1, electric tricycle china several Starting device

Divided by the motor starter schematic: 1, reduced voltage starting methods. Traditional vacuum motor starting methods are Y-Δ start, decompression starting autotransformer, reactor start-up and so on. These methods belong to a class start decompression start, there are obvious shortcomings, the process of starting a secondary impact of current. The current high-pressure common way for liquid resistance starter starter, SCR series decompression start. 2, variable frequency start method. With the development of IGBT technology, high frequency voltage levels and larger capacities, but because of the price factor has restricted its development.

Rongxin Power Electronic Co., Ltd., on the basis of the SVC successfully developed three high frequency electric tricycle china, it has three characteristic frequency stepless regulator.

2, three frequency high-voltage electric tricycle china technical principles and characteristics

High-voltage soft-start power supply and motor in series between the main circuit shown in Figure 1.

Figure 1 Main circuit diagram

Three frequency high-voltage soft-start technology, the first SCR in series, then by controlling the conduction angle of SCR to achieve a level FM, and non-polar voltage regulator functions. Starting early by controlling the valve in the SA, SB, SC was to achieve a turn-on frequency 12.5HZ, the motor of 1 / 4 the rated speed when the control valve SA, SD, SE switch to 25HZ, the motor to achieve 1 / 2 rated speed, through the control valve SA, SB, SC to complete the full range of the switching process, and ultimately reach the rated speed, the bypass is closed off electric tricycle china trigger pulse to complete the starting process. Throughout the starting process in the three frequency points, while adjusting the frequency, change the output voltage to maintain constant voltage to frequency ratio, so that you can ensure that the entire starting process, the starting torque to keep the rated torque of 80 -90%, while the starting current can be controlled at about 2 times the rated current. Starting torque, starting current, is a three-frequency high-voltage electric tricycle china’s largest technical characteristics.

3, S miners fan motor in the practical application.

Yangquan Coal Mine S is a new mine, it’s power capacity is 35KV, 10000KVA, because the grid is responsible for the underground, Inoue electrical equipment supply, so the grid is relatively small margin, in order to ensure the process does not affect the start Other devices running on the main fan starting current requirements are very strict. And because it is located in the high-gas area, which uses negative pressure was high winds axial bldc motor (two-stage fan is currently Asia’s largest mining axial bldc motor), the main fan motor power of 10KV, 5000KW. Throughout the starting process, showing the starting torque, starting current, a smooth start, the advantages of starting a short time. Measured data in Table 1.

measure electric bike hub motor hall sensors

Bike motor controller is fine, they all got 4.9~5.0 from meter reading. We will open and check the hub motor after work. We are more worried about if the electric bike motor itself is damaged.

Could you get the below data:
1. Remove this white biggest plug, power on and measure volt of white biggest from brushless motor controller.
Red, Black, blue, green and yellow
1.Red and black is about 4.9V
2.Blue and black is about 4.9V
3.Green and black is about 4.9V
4.Yellow and black is about 4.9V

If you can get the data, the bldc motor controller is okay.

LCD always display “05 flashing”.
The issue comes from electric bike motor hall.(five wire: red, black, green, blue and yellow)
Could you check this five wires whether through?

This is a instruction about how to disconnect this hub motor.
It takes about 10 minutes to disconnect.

You will find a PCB around the rotor-winding. There are five wires (red, black, green, blue and yellow) are on this PCB.

I removed both panel on hub motor and did a quick test. All the thin wire looks fine. They can go through from both side. But the thick wire connect to enameled wire that I can’t test since they been wrapped up.

If Not flashing. Then it will work.
Could you get below data from electric bike motor hall sensor?

Three are three hall sensors around rotor winding.
For example:
hall 1 Green (pin 1.1 pin 1.2 pin 1.3)
hall 2 Yellow (pin 2.1 pin 2.2 pin 2.3)
hall 3 Blue (pin 3.1 pin 3.2 pin 3.3)

Pin 1.1 ,pin 2.1 and pin 3.1 are connected to the red wire together.
Pin 2.1 ,pin 2.2 and pin 2.3 are connected to the black wire together.
Pin 1.3 is green,pin 2.3 is yellow,pin 3.3 is blue.

Volt meter Red Pin to Pin x.1 black Pin to x.2 (x=1,2,3)You will get below data:
Pin 1.1 and pin 1.2 is about 1.185 (see picture 5)
Pin 2.1 and pin 2.2 is about 1.185
Pin 3.1 and pin 3.2 is about 1.185

Volt meter Red Pin to Pin x.1 black Pin to x.3 (x=1,2,3)You will get below data:
Pin 1.1 and pin 1.3 is about 1.498 (see picture 4)
Pin 2.1 and pin 2.3 is about 1.498
Pin 3.1 and pin 3.3 is about 1.498

Volt meter Red Pin to Pin x.2 black Pin to x.3 (x=1,2,3)You will get below data:
Pin 1.2 and pin 1.3 is about .633 (see picture 6)
Pin 2.2 and pin 2.3 is about .633
Pin 3.2 and pin 3.3 is about .633

Another way to test hall sensor:
Connect all wires, power on.

Measure red, black, green, blue and yellow BLDC motor hall wires
1.Red and black is about 4.9V
2.Black and yellow is about 4.9 or 0V (Please use your hand to turn hub motor, the data will change from 4.9-0V)
3.Black and blue is about 4.9 or 0V (Please use your hand to turn hub motor, the data will change from 4.9-0V)
4.Black and green is about 0V or 4.9V (Please use your hand to turn hub motor, the data will change from 0V-4.9V)

If nothing is changed, this hall was broken.
How about the other black and red wire?
Only black or red wire can’t touch well or not go through, 05 will be always flashing.

Hub motor info and prices

Q:My name is James and a while ago I purchased a hub motor in your casted 16 inch wheel. I had problems with it due to a broken wire and we worked out a replacement for it.
Since then I have put in over 1200 miles (over 1900 kilometers) with no problems! It is a very good electric bike motor, controller and controls and I am very pleased with it.
I am putting together a product that uses the same 16 inch rear wheel and may order up to 5 units at a time.
Here are my questions:
1. Can you provide a quick disconnect from the hub motor wire to be able to change a flat easier? If so how much extra would that be? Or can you provide us with the connectors so we could do it?
2. What is the RPM difference between the 750 watt 36 volt model compared to the 1000 watt 48 volt model?
3. Is shipping cheaper if 5 motors are ordered versus 1 hub motor ordered?
Thank you very much.
I look forward to doing business with you in the future.

A: Glad to hear that.
1.Yes,we can provide a quick disconnect.
* If just make a cable with this white big male & female plugs.Don’t need extra cost. Also,we can customize cable as your order.
* If quick disconnect like as : circular male & female plugs with 8 pin.(All of motor’s 8 wires are connect to this 8 ping)
* Our 36V 750W and 48V 1000W are the same hub motor, just work at different voltage.
* Yes,if order 5 pcs,the shipping cost will cheaper.(The shipping cost also depends on the parcel’size)
For example:If order 5 sets of 16 inch,the shipping cost is cheaper than 5 sets 26 inch…

Q:On your 48 volt 12 Mosfet electric controller is there a way that I can reprogram it to change the pedal assist parameters and regen parameters?
1. I am making a product that is called the Wattwagon and find I get more control using pedal assist versus using the throttle. I mostly use PA level 2 and then 1 and 3 and occasionally 4. Pedal assist 5 for my application is too strong. I would like to have a setting in between 1 and 2 for climbing steep hills without wheel spin.
2. When I hooked up regen it was too strong and would slow me down too quickly. I would like to program for a regen that is about half that amount.
I hope to order some electric bike motors soon since I have some pending sales.
