20 inch 48v 52v front hub motor diy bike conversion kits question

Q: Hello! I have been viewing your various 20″ 48v/52v front hub motor diy bike conversion kits and I have a couple of questions.

1) Is there a way to install a disc brake rotor somehow next to the hub motor and still function properly? If so, can you tell me maximum rotor size allowed for these kits?

2) What type of battery would you recommend for a 48v/52v front hub motor kit like this?

Thank you very much for your time and assistance regarding this matter.

A: 1.) Can install a disk on this 20 inch 1000w or 1500w front hub motor… but the front dropout should be 105mm or 110mm..
Standard front dropout is about 100mm..

So if the dropout can’t be larger, can’t use disk on front motor.

2.) We recommend 52v 20ah lithium battery.
https://www.leafbike.com/products/lithium-battery/52v-20ah-1500w-electric-bike-battery-triangle-battery-1225.html

Q: Thank you very much for your quick response. Do you know what the maximum disc brake rotor size I would be allowed to install next to motor? Thank you again.

A: We installed max 160mm

Below picture.
The dia. of two holes for disk is 44m…
If your 180mm 203mm,  aslo 44mm… You can install 180mm, 203mm disk

Q:
I forgot to ask you one last thing before making a final decision on a front hub motor kit. I know you said you are not able to ship the recommended 52v 20ah battery to Japan, but can you recommend a charger to go with this type of battery? Thank you again for all of your help and assistance.

I just noticed the charger that comes with the 52v 20ah li battery, so I can look for battery/charger here in Japan. But, do you have in stock just the frame bag for holding this type of battery?

Not sure it’s 27.5 or 29 inch bike conversion kit

Q: Good evening. I was referred to your shop from someone on a forum, and I’m hoping you can help me. I’m looking to convert my Trail 8 bike to a rear-wheel electric. I have very little understanding of mechanics, bike parts, and measurements so finding a kit that is the right size for my bike has been very difficult. I am confident that I can install the kit if I have the right one. If you don’t mind could you please have a look at my bike’s specifications and tell me which specific kit will fit my bike? I’m very motivated to purchase one. Thank you!

A: Not sure it’s 27.5″ or 29 inch? (27.5 inch rim is smaller than 29 inch rim)

If tire size is 29 x 2.25″ — All of our 29 inch hub motor kits are fit for this tire.

How to choose bike conversion kit?
1. Check tire size, there is some words on tire (from picture,we can’t find tire size)
For example: if there is  29 x 2.25″

29 inch wheel size, 2.25″ is tire width…
All of our 29 inch hub motor fit for this 29 x 2.25″ tire

2. check front or rear fork width
For example: the dropout of this bike is 135mm (can’t find this info on your link)
All of our rear hub motor kits with max 7 speed fit for this 135mm rear dropout
(If you hope install 8 speed,9 speed.. the dropout should be a little larger than 135mm, if fork dropout can be a little large, to be 140mm, install 8 speed,9 speed on our rear hub motor is no problem)

Generally just 1 & 2 both fit for.. mount this hub motor kit to your bike is no problem.

(Nearly all of this kind bike’s rear dropout is 135mm or a little larger.. install is no problem)

21 speed is okay.
Front is 3 speed, rear is 7 speed..

Our 29 inch rear hub motor with 7 speed is fit for standard 135mm dropout.

(Some bike rear has 8 speed or 9 speed..)

Q: Ah okay I think I get it now. Sorry for my questions this is out of my knowledge area. So it looks like https://www.leafbike.com/products/diy-bike-conversion-kit/29-inch-48v-52v-1500w-rear-wheel-electric-hub-motor-kit-1065.html is going to be the one for me. I’ll make sure on that fork size tomorrow and check with my bike shop if they think the dropouts are sturdy enough. Just a couple more questions – do you have a 48V battery recommendation? And there an installation guide with the kit?

BMX 20 inch 48V / 52V 1500W rear hub motor – electric bike conversion kit

Q: Can you give quote of just 20 inch 1500W BMX hub motor and wheel only? For BMX 20 inch rear with wheel to fit 2.4” tire.
Also, does this BMX motor have wires coming out before threads on axle?
https://www.leafbike.com/products/diy-bike-conversion-kit/bmx-20-inch-48v-52v-1500w-rear-hub-motor-electric-bike-conversion-kit-1180.html

A: Please click below site. The price and the shipping cost is the same to below link.
https://www.leafbike.com/products/e-bike-hub-motor/20-inch-48v-52v-1500w-rear-bike-motor-wheel-1016.html
If order, just leave message: BMX motor fit for 110mm dropout.

Q: Is there a physical difference between the 750w, 1000w, and 1500w BMX hub motors themselves? Different number of turns, gauge wire, etc?

A: 36v 750w & 48v 1000w are the same motor.
1500w is different from 1000w motor.
Difference as below:
1. the width of 1000w is 35mm hub, 1500w is 40mm hub
2. magnet height of 1000w is 30mm, 1500w is 35mm magnet
3. the width of 1000w winding rotor is 30mm, 1500w is 35mm winding rotor

The gauge wire is the same, but 1500w should use much more wires than 1000w.
About number for turns, we can customize different turns for 1000w, 1500w.

Q: Thank you for all the help in choosing what to order. Do the wires come out of the axle inside our outside of the dropouts? I have attached a picture of the wire coming from inside the dropouts.

A: 1500W 135mm dropout motor can use 3mm phase wire – cable inside fork
1500W  110mm dropout BMX motor uses 2mm phase wire – cable out of shaft end, outside fork.

Q: This video is where I am seeing the 110mm BMX setup from leaf bike. In his description, he states it’s a front hub motor “made to fit a sprocket”  and in his video he shows the wires coming from inside the “fork”
Is this something you also do for my order? Or maybe the person is misunderstanding.

Ebike Breaking questions

Q: I have three questions so far.  One is about the Regen breaking, another is about the break levers, and the last one is about coasting.

For the Regen breaking does the controller prevent Regen breaking when the battery is fully charged so as to not burn out the controller or will I need to buy something else to prevent that from happening?

I see that the break levers have cables running from them however it says that I should buy break cut off sensors.  If those cables are not for break cut off sensors what are they for?  Also I already have hydraulic breaks so do you have hydraulic break levers that have the wiring that I need or do I just need to buy the break cut off sensors and add them to my bike?

I know that direct drive motors have drag however I would like to know at what speed, if any, it will “short” and forcibly slow me back down “some controllers do this”. And and what speed it will slow me down if any if I use it with the battery detached.

A: Regen breaking works while press braking leaver (from slower to stop, only a couple of seconds – impossible to be fully charged

Our brake lever with cut off sensors.
Your hydraulic breaks without cut off sensor.
If you don’t like our brake lever, hope use your hydraulic breakes, buy cut off sensors.. please click below site.
https://www.leafbike.com/products/electric-bike-parts/hydraulic-mechanical-brake-cut-off-sensor-switch-cable-1213.html

The direct drive motor has resistance, but it is not obvious. The power-off switch and mechanical brake must be used to stop the motor.
If the speed of 50kmh is on the flat ground, disconnect the power supply, do not use the mechanical brake, and generally slide more than 150m (if two rider on bike, may just slide 20m)

soon to be customer for 20 inch BMX 1500W bike motor kit

Q: Looking for a rear wheel 20 inch hub motor kit for BMX an need a 12t sprocket, also I have a 72v battery for ebike so wondering if I can get a bigger controller to use 72v battery also more amps mean more power is my understanding!

A: max 16t sprocket,we have 16 t sprocket.
12T doesn’t fit for 20 inch hub motor.
Our BMX rear 20 inch bike motor kit can work at 72v, but we should customize low speed if work at 72v battery..
what max speed would you like, 20 inch wheel?

Q: What’s the max speed, wanting 45mph or 50mph

A: The fastest of our 20 inch bike motor kit works at 52v battery can reach 40mph
If work at 72v, 45mph or 50mph, should make low speed motor.

Q: What’s the OLD size for the drop out?

A: Standard is 135mm..
Not sure your bike, if possible, measure it very easy.

Q: Would u have a 20 inch hub motor kit for a 110mm rear drop out with flywheel for BMX?

A: yes,we have 20 inch 1500w BMX with single speed freewheel fit for 110mm rear fork
https://www.leafbike.com/products/diy-bike-conversion-kit/bmx-20-inch-48v-52v-1500w-rear-hub-motor-electric-bike-conversion-kit-1180.html

Q: What’s the kv eating of the motor so I can maybe switch to a bigger controller

A: The 20 inch BMX bike motor kit you bought that can work at 48v or 52v battery (min 40v ~ max 60v)

Can’t work over 63v, can’t work with 60v battery, can’t work with 72v battery..(Controller & LCD NOT support 60v, 72v battery)

Q: Could I change the controller an display out for 72v controller an display by chance??

A: We have one 72v controller in stock. can drive this motor..
but without LCD.

Also, if works at 72v, should re-customize a slower speed 20 inch bike motor.

Q: My battery is a 72v 20ah battery pack!

A: 72v 20ah should use 72V controller.

This 20 inch hub motor kit works at 48v battery, can reach about 40mph (no load speed)

If this 20 inch hub motor kit works with 72v controller & 72v battery, it will reach 60mph.. it’s too fast..

We need to customize a lower speed so that reach about 40mph.

20 inch beach snow fat kit with 1500w bike motor modified

Q: I am looking for a beach snow fat kit for my bike, do you have e bike kit for 20×4.0 inch?
1500w with 69 kmh?

A: Yes. We can make.
Please click below site.
https://www.leafbike.com/products/beach-snow-fat-bike-kit/20-inch-electric-hub-motor-wheel/

@48v about 57kmh no load speed..  if work at @52v battery, a little fast..
Also, we can make the fastest winding rotor for this 1500w.. if @48v about 75kmh no load speed..

Q: Can I ask how much rpm, N.m?
and with 95 kg load the speed?  48 or 52 v

A: if full charged 52v battery, 95kg on flat road can reach about 50kmh

Q: 50kmh 52v with bike motor modified?

A: it’s default bike motor, not that fastest..

Q: I need faster and i want to know the faster goes…. Important for me.. Now I have 750w with 52v go to 48kmh. I need more speed.

A: 75kmh

Q: With load? 60kmh? Just last question… What torque have modified motor?
Now i have 48v battery then i upgrade 52v

A: 48v battery,ride on the flat road,still can reach about 75kmh
We made a sample, not test it on machine, very fast, very dangerous

Q: I don’t want to go at 75kmh but if i want to escape from dangerous situations i can! Please can you tell me the torque of bike motor? If a have problem with Uphill roads? If a lose more power or not..

A: all of our 48v 1000w,1500w are easy to uphill.. more than 30Nm

Q: I need your kit, 1500w bike motor modified.
Kit for 20×4” inch can i choose to use 48 or 52 v
It’s important for me to have the modified bike motor motor, i need to have 55-60 kmh with load.

26 inch 2000w fat tire e bike kits

Q: I have a few questions to ask you about 2 of your kits. I have a stretcher Fat bike, That right now weight’s about 80lbs. One of the kits was 48/52 2000watt, and the other is the 60volt 2000watt 26 inch beach snow fat kit. I see that the 48/52 has a 24 mosfet controller, and the 60 volt has 18mosfits. My question is witch one would recommend for me? I did see I could upgrade to a 24 mosfet. I would I be able to exchange for that and pay the different? Last question, I have polish aluminum rims, is it possible to get that instead of  black?

A: What’s the dropouts of your fork, 170mm or 190mm?

Q:I have 170 drop outs and a single speed gear.

A: 170mm dropouts and a single speed
how fast would you like,…30mph or 40mph or 50mph

Q: My bike weighs about 80 pounds, I would like to be ably to go around mid 30’s.

A:30 mph speed ride on flat road

Q: 30 35 miles an hour is fast enough I’m looking for long rides I have a 60 volt 35 amp hour battery for it.I just had a chance to put everything together. The hub motor does not run, I recheck the 3 phase wire and they are good. I check all of the wires connector they are good. I disconnected the brake cutout, to see if that was the problem, still nothing I tried the other throttle that was sent, with the kit, got nothing. here is a picture of the display. Also how do I turn the back light on the controller.

A: We tested your 26 inch beach snow fat kit with all of other bike parts, they worked together. Everything was good.

What’s the voltage did you input?
It only work at 60v battery.  (If too high voltage or wrong connecting for + & – power wires may have issue)

Please take a photo while turning throttle check if “66’F” will be [ ], if can be changed, that means throttle is good.

Also, can hold on “down” button, if motor can work as “walk speed”

Q: OK my battery 60volt 35amh. I took the bike to a bike shop that works on e-bikes, and I paid to have it tested, the hub motor checks out good and the brake cut out is good the throttle check out good, hub motor windings are good the only thing that shows that it has a problem, is the controller.

20 inch 1000w rear casted hub motor electric bike kit

Q: Hey there how are you?
I m texting u from Australia and wanna ask few questions before placing an order for 20 inch hub motor electric bike kit.
1:How long delivery will take to arrive in Australia ?
2:Which company u will use for that?
3:Do u have this but 1500w 2kw or 3kw hub motor ?
4:how long warranty is?
5:do u sell special metal parts to use in a form to prevent of braking it as its hub motor has so much power? or special fork?
https://www.leafbike.com/products/diy-bike-conversion-kit/20-inch-48v-52v-1000w-rear-casted-hub-motor-electric-bike-kit-1218.html

A: 1. About 10 days to arrive in Australia
2. Our self company make hub motors.
3. This 20 inch casted max 1000w, no 1500w, 2kw…  because only one kind of casted hub part for 1000w hub motor.
4. ONE year
5.it’s easy to brake..  (1. press brake lever, it will cut off motor power at once.. 2. also your disk brake or V -brake works that’s easy to stop motor

Q: I mean I don’t wanna brake metal parts which holds motor hub and wheel can u have a look on picture.

Do u sell any piece of metal to make supports for frame in part where frame connects which wheel?
I m so sorry for my English I hope u understand what I m asking about

A: The dia. of this motor’s shaft is 14mm (flat is 10mm)
Don’t need other metal part. It’s fit for all standard bike.

Q: Yeah can u have a look at new pics I wound some in internet, and that what I am asking u to how to prevent it . I just don’t wanna brake fork front or rear one. If front brakes its K i can Change for other one
But if rear, I will need to buy new bike

A: The frame quality of bicycle on picture is not good.

Many customers use this Aluminum bracket for 1000w, 1500w hub motor that is no problem.

If you have steel fork that’s much better.

Q: Just one lats question before I place an order.
Does that motor hub require special battery?
Or can I use batteries i have 2 48v Samsung ebike batteries ?

A: Don’t need special battery.

20 inch 48v / 52v 1500w hub motor electric bike kit works with 48v or 52v battery (min 40v to max 60v)

ONE 48v Battery can drive it.

16 inch 24V 250W front hub motor – electric bike kit

Q: I have an old 16 inch bike that I would like to add electric assist on the front wheel (The rear has a complex hub/cassette that I don’t want to mess with). The hub specs seem like they would work with this kind of bike but I have some questions. Will the added weight of a front hub motor put strain on the headset? Will the hub work with the compact v-brakes that came with the bike or will I need to upgrade? Will it work with my 60 psi tires? Would I be able to power my hub dynamo lights with the battery? I am not looking for anything powerful–just something to help me up hills.
Note the attached picture is before I upgraded to long swept back handlebars which should give me enough room for any controllers and throttles.

A: This 16 inch hub motor kit 24v 250w front is fit for the spacing of 100mm fork.
* if possible, just measure the spacing of your fork, check if 100mm? -If 100mm, no any problem. Fit for your bike, also fit for your V brake, also your fork support this motor.
This bike motor is not heavy. Works with your fork. This 16 inch rim is fit for 16 x 1.5″ or 16 x 1.75 or 16 x 1.95″ tire.
But we recommend 36v 250w or 48v 250w or 48v 500w (24v 250w is not strong)

Q:  I am just researching right now. If 250W is too weak, will the next wattage size help me up the hill? Would you recommend high or low pressure tires (I prefer low pressure)? Does the price include the battery?

A: 48V 250W or 48V 500W is okay.
If strongest, 48v 1500w low speed motor.
Not include battery.

Q: Would the 36v 250w bike motor be strong enough to boost me up hills and what battery pack would work with it? Can motor batteries be tapped to power lights originally powered from a hub dynamo?

A: 36v 250w bike motor is stronger than 24v 250w
But still no good for up hills, just work for flat road.
Also, 48v 250w bike motor is just better to work for flat road, not good for up hill.
If up hill, should 16 inch 48V 1000W, 1500W bike motor.

Q: I would still be peddling the bike with motor assist rather than relying on the motor alone. I currently don’t want too powerful a motor as my current rim brakes may not be strong enough. Also this would be the first time I rode any kind of electrified bike so I need an “entry level” set up.
One other thing, how well does the motor hold up against heat, cold and getting wet as in encountering the occasional puddle? It can get really hot, cold and wet where I live.

26 inch 2000W HUB SNOW BIKE KIT – FOR 190MM DROPOUT

Q: Could you tell me the spec of the most powerful hub motor you sell in the 26 inch fat bike kit that will fit a 190mm rear dropout please?
I am looking to buy the hub motor pre-laced in a rim, can you also advise on what battery to go with it.

A: 190mm dropout..
We can make 26 inch 48V 1000w or 26 inch 48V 1500w hub motor
We recommend 48v or 52v 20ah battery.

Q: Thanks for the reply. Can you quote me for a 1500w direct drive hub wound for torque on a 26″ 80mm rim with cassette and place for rim brake with 190mm dropout please?
Here is the bike I want to install it on

A:We have 26 inch 80mm rim
but don’t have cassette version shaft for 190mm hub motor.
ONLY shaft for freewheel sprocket.

Q:Freewheel will be fine. How much to order please?

A:Click below site.  Check out… check out..
choose your country, will get shipping cost & total price.
Leave message: 190mm 26 inch 80mm
(190mm is very important, or send an email to us after paid, need 190mm shaft,  default: 170mm )

Q:One more question do you have different windings available? Bike will be climbing lots of hills.

A:Yes, we have different windings available..
Just tell us max speed, we can make windings as your max speed.
We can make fastest: 22 x 3T just for e-motorcycle
Also, can make 16 x 4T – fast
13 x 5T
11 x 6T – popular
9 x 7T
8 x 8T – stronger and not too slow
7 x 9T
6 x 11T — slow
5 x 13T
4 x 16T

Q:Which winding works well for long hill climbing without overheating?

A: 11 x 6T is not too slow,also strong.
Don’t worry motor overheating.
ONLY make sure controller is not overheating.. motor will not overheating..
** Don’t pack controller inside bag.Had better to hold it on the frame directly. It’s easy to cool controller in Summer.
** There pairs of heavy yellow, blue, green phase wires must connected well. Had better to use electrical tape winding.

Q: I saw you have a 2000w hub motor model fat bike wheel how fast will that go?
I think that may be my last question
Sorry also does hub motor have a temp sensor or can you add one please?
Hi saw this new model and had questions:
https://www.leafbike.com/products/beach-snow-fat-bike-kit/26-inch-60v-2000w-rear-hub-motor-beach-snow-fat-tire-bike-conversion-kit-1231.html

Your 26 inch 2000w snow bike kits says it can come in 190mm rear dropout, is that correct?

How many amps is the controller?

Can you supply as a thumb throttle instead of twist throttle?

Does motor come mounted inside the wheel?

What windings can you offer on this 2000w version?
