Hub motor or controller short circuit fault

I purchased a 29 inch 1500 watt rear hub motor kit before you sold the kit with sine wave controllers 5 years ago. I love your hub motor. It’s very fast and powerful. I think your hub motors are the best in the world. I have recommended your bike motor to many of my friends. I
am going to buy a new 29 inch bike motor kit.

I am writing because I get a hub motor or controller short circuit fault message on the display when I use the walking feature. I hear a thumping noise when I use the throttle, but the motor doesn’t spin. Does this mean the problem is with my controller or with my motor?

Usually, this phenomenon may be caused by the following situations.

1. Caused by a short circuit between the positive and negative poles of the power supply. The positive pole of the power supply is connected to the negative pole, and the negative pole of the power supply is connected to the positive pole.

2. The voltage of the battery is too high, exceeding the maximum value of the controller capacitor, causing instantaneous breakdown of the capacitor.

Of course, it is also possible that the circuit board of the controller was not cleaned thoroughly, and the solder beads caused short circuits between electronic components.

The issue comes from hub motor controller.
If possible, open this controller and check if the capacitor has been burned out. It’s easy to open this controller box. Only use a screw driver to take off 4 screw nuts per side. Then can take the PCB out of controller.

Can re-test it as below:
Connect hub motor controller ‘s red and black power wires together. Discharge the electricity from the capacitor. Then re-connect them to battery power wires.

1500w hub motor rpm

I have done a little more testing with the 1500w hub motor. I think that I am
happy with the current winding. I am giving the motor 65A battery, 180
amps phase.. and it is like a rocket now.
The efficiency is very good.. the most efficient hub motor I have
tested.. good work!

But I want to be sure about the winding for my post about your 48V 1500W bike motor,
because your webpage shows lots of different RPM for the same motor (
this is confusing )..

If someone orders the hub motor from your website.. they will receive a 16*4
turn motor, which is 650rpm @ 49v = 13.26 kV
And the 13*5 turn motor would do 550rpm @ 49v = 11.2 kV
Is this correct…?

P.S. If you are interested in having a hub motor re-seller.. I told someone
in the USA about your hub motors and told him about my tests.

I got the hub motor and have tested it. It’s a great hub motor, but the winding is too fast for a 26 inch,650B,700C,28 inch,29 inch hub motor wheel. It’s better for 14 inch,16 inch,18 inch,20 inch,24 inch bike motor wheel.

The no load speed on the hub motor I received = 640rpm on 49v.

I notice on your web page that you sell stator windings.. I was wondering
how many turns this hub motor has.

Is it possible that you could sell me a stator winding with one more turn that could do 500-550rpm on 49v?

16 * 4T 650RPM
13 * 5T 550RPM
11 * 6T 450RPM
9 * 7T 350RPM
8 * 8T 250RPM
7 * 9T 150RPM

18 inch gearless brushless hub motor for electric bike

I am interested in the 18 inch rear gearless bldc hub motor provided by leaf bike company and I had a few questions about the hub motor.

1) What is the rated torque?
2) What is the maximum torque?
3) How many poles are there in this hub motor?
4) Does it contain any brakes? If so, what type? (Disc/Drum/V-brake)
5) Does it contain hall sensors? If so, How many and what is their description?
6) Most importantly, is this motor a brushless dc motor (BLDC) or a permanent magnet synchronous motor(PMSM)? This greatly affects my choice, as both types are sometimes very close to each other, so I needed verification on what type it was.
7) Does it have a waterproof gradient?
8) Dimensions: I had an issue with the dimensions listed in the description compared to dimensions in the drawing for the motor on Leaf Motor site. I am actually looking for a motor that is around 16 inches, however, I chose the 18 inches because the image for the 18 inches shows the diameter being 372 mm which is equal to around 14.6 inches, which isn’t 16 inches but is very close. The diameter of the electric bike motor is crucial for my wheel choices and so clarifying what the actual diameter of this motor would be very helpful, I can’t risk not being sure of the dimensions as I am currently designing the vehicle and need to be very accurate, and that’s why a professional mechanic is needed specialized in this kind of vehicle, because sometimes people think a person who’s good with cars will be good at bikes too.
9)Does this motor support regenerative braking?
10) What is the back EMF of this motor?
Finally, I would like to apologize if these are too many questions but I am in need of the maximum clarifications I can get to be as precise, so any information you can provide will help me on my quest to find the best. I will be forever grateful for your help.

This 20 inch snow bike kit can work with a 48V battery.

I want to purchase one of leaf hub motor kits

I have done a lot of research and leaf motor and services keep coming up as a fine choice.

My original choice was the 3000 watt hub motor but I have already spent a lot of money on the electric bike and so that will have to come later but from what I have read this one may do just fine.

I currently run a 6T hub motor with a 48V 20A battery pack in a GT bike frame I build a few years ago and really like the way the hub motor runs but would like more speed so I ordered a new Raptor 76r frame and plan on using leaf motor in that setup so my questions are as follows:

The frame has 150mm dropouts in the rear.
From the previous build I already have a premium 48V 20A rated up to 50A output lithium battery pack that I paid 900.00 to have built so I will have to base the new hub motor and brushless controller around this for now.

AT first I was just going to get the 26 inch 1500 watt 4T leaf hub motor kit but then read it was better to have these in the 17” or 19” motor rim for this frame

Do you offer the hub motor with the 150mm axle?

I want this to run at close 40mph / 60kph the 4T should do that but I also would like the upgraded controller over the standard. What is the best motor controller you offer with the 1500 watt motor?

I also noticed you had a 2000 watt motor in the motorcycle section. Is this hub motor available for the bicycle kit and what are the specs on it?

What controller does the 2000 watt motor use?

I am going to buy at least 2 of these. One in the next week +a bare spare and another in a month or so and then probably 2 or 3 after that. I have several friends that want a bike like mine so after I get mine done will be building theirs as well.

At the least I will order the standard 1500 watt hub motor kit in either the 26 or 24 or 20 rim and then I will just pick up a spare bare hub motor and lace the rim myself.

48V 1000W 1500W rear hub motor for 20 inch or 24 26 27.5 700c 28 29 inch

Do you have a more detailed drawing for dimensions of the 48V 1000W,1500W rear hub motor? I am particularly interested in the dimension I marked “A” so I can be sure the brake rotor disc will fit correctly.

The drawing from your web site shows the left side of the hub motor on the right side of the drawing. Also, in the video the hub motor is installed backwards and the rear derailleur is just hanging off the bike on the cable. Very confusing, but eventually I understood that the person who installed your hub motor on the bike put the motor in backwards, with the wire coming out the right side even though your specifications say the wire comes out the left side.

I suggest that you make all of your drawings, pictures, and video consistent left to right, because they are presently mixed up.

Here is an example of a drawing that is correct left versus right and has all the dimensions a bicycle builder needs to be confident the motor will fit the bicycle.

If I order with a free hub to use a cassette is the free hub body replaceable?

Does it look something like this?

Do you have a part number or a link for the replacement free hub and cassette for that motor?

Thank you very much for all the information, I really like this hub motor but I need to make sure it will fit and work well for my bike.
