electric hub motor for motorcycle

Q: I am planning to install hub motor on my gasoline scooter. Basically I want my scooter to use gasoline or electric hub motor. My question is, if I install the electric hub motor on my scooter.

What will happen to the electric hub motor (motor is off) if I run my gasoline motor top speed of 120kph? Will the electric hub motor (even turned off ) be damaged because of higher wheel rpm on gasoline running top speed?

A: If max speed is less than 800RPM that is no problem for our hub motor.
What size of your wheel?
Too high speed will break the bearing.

Q: If I change the bearing to high speed bearings. Will the coils magnet inside will break? 17 inch rim.

A: Magnet and coils is no problem if you cut off electric so that No current between controller and motor when you use gasoline.
If No current, Not too hot. Magnet and coils is okay when 120kmh.
17 inch rim. I think you should use our 20 inch bike conversion kit.
Below leaf bike is our new site.

Q: I saw your youtube videos on your channel.
I prefer to install it on front wheel using a 17inch motorcycle wheel rim,so a hub motor is best. You can checkout my motorcycle channel youtube.com so that you have idea on what I do on my bikes.
What kind of hub motor can you suggest on me?

A: We recommend 20 inch front 48V 1000W hub motor with 160mm disk. The diameter of this electric hub motor tire is about 51cm. It’s brushless gearless motor and has enough power to climb on ebike. We found yours is motorcycle, it’s too heavy. If possible, please choose our 17 inch electric motorcycle motor. It’s very fit for your motorcycle. How about this 17 inch electric motor?

I just placed a hub motor kit order on leaf bike site

Paypal confirmed payment of $1201.00 USD for order Transaction ID: 9CG1909M41791512C
The other day I was trying to services when I decided to order a 20″ front hub motor wheel 48V 1000W custom bike conversion kit along with a 48V 20AH LiFe2PO4 battery. I chatted with a representative the other day about some questions about what was included with the electric bike conversion kit and that it would be suitable in the application of use on my 3 wheel recumbent tadpole trike. Your representative said you could include some items free of charge since my order is over $1000 USD.
I asked if the 48V 20AH lithium battery was just wrapped in blue shrink wrap as depicted or if it came in a locking metal case like the 12AH battery and he said that you would find a suitable key locking metal case for the 48V20AH battery similar to the 12AH one and include that Free of charge.
I asked if the bike conversion kit included a torque arm since it was not listed in the items on the page and i thought that since it most would be required with a 1000w hub motor it should be. He said the kit would include 2 torque arms free of charge.
I see on the pages it appears that the black lightening is all black and the other styles in some kits has silver rings on the outside of the hub motor. The kit I am ordering looks like it is all black in the picture so I assume it is the new more powerful Black Lightening, but I would like to confirm before the item is shipped which style/model of hub motor this is.
Your representative also said you would include 2 of the 3 button switches, and since it is not clear whether the thumb throttle or twist throttle would be the most practical with my recumbent trikes steering you would include one of each free of charge.

How to disconnect the bldc hub motor for electric bike?

Spring come, nice days to ride e-bikes.But when you take out of your old e-bike from warehouse and are going to ride it.Suddenly you would find there is strange noise from hub motor .
These days the electric bike motor are brushless gearless and used for electric bike widely. It was made of rotor-winding,magnet,hub,covers,axis,bearings…
If this bike motor has strange noise, generally it’s from rotor-winding rub magnet or the bearing is broken. It’s easy to solve it.The important is to disconnect this electric hub motor.
You should prepare some tools:
1.Hexagon wrench (Necessary)
2.Hammer (Necessary)
3.Screwdriver

Disconnect hub motor Step 1:
Take off nuts and gasket on axis and use hexagon wrench to loose 16 screws.

Step 2:
Make the hub motor stand and cable is bent inside.Left hand hold the hub motor and use hammer to knock the axis.

Step 3:
After some knock, the cover will take off hub.

Step 4:
Use the same way to knock the other axis, the other cover will also take off hub.

Step 5:
When both side covers are off hub, next we should take out the rotor-winding.Make the axis stands on the ground, both hands press hub motor, the rotor-winding will out of hub.

Step 6:
Check magnet around inside hub,if there is some metallic impurities stick on magnet. Please remove it.If no,but found some friction trace on magnet. Please check around the rotor-winding and remove some glue around the steel. If not, please check the bearing inside the cover.Use a little finger hold inside the bearing, use the other hand to turn cover, faster, better. If you hear some noise. Please replace bearings.

By now,you have solved problem.

a little problem with hub motor kit rim

I received bike conversion kit with new version LCD motor controller, hub motor wheel and bike parts ..everything but the lithium battery , started to mount a tire on the hub motor wheel rim and I think there might be a little problem with it the hole for the tube is in between where the spokes cross, making it almost impossible to get the inflation valve on the stem. I might be able to drill another hole on the other side between where the spokes go apart so it will work, haven’t looked into that yet the hole for the valve stem should be where the spokes are going away from it, so the valve can be fitted on easily. I have a few tools and a reamer so I probably can make it work. I was going to put one of these airless no-flat tubes in, its solid foam, but I think nice you get it on that’s it, you have to cut the tire to remove it after the tire wears out
I got a regular tube on and inflated it, but once it inflated the stem pulled so far down into the rim I get the valve back on it now.
I can’t get the valve back on, but it looks like it has enough air, hopefully it will hold it
anxious for the lithium battery to com now so I can try the motor out
I was looking at your metal case that the lithium battery goes in. on some other site it looked like the same case, but it had a theft vibration alarm when you turned the key and pulled it out, to keep it from being stolen. that looked like a good idea. I thought the theft alarm would be a good idea . The battery is so valuable. It might be a good idea for you to put one in the lithium battery case with a vibration sensor and maybe a 120db buzzer or something. the batteries are so expensive
I can see it being a good feature to add to all of the hub motor controller.

I think some sort of vibration alarm on the bike to detect tampering with such an expensive lithium battery would be a good product service for your customers.

Be hard for them to run with the lithium battery when it is screaming at 120db they would be noticed kind of like a bump alarm on a car, when someone tries to break into it
I think going to find one for my recumbent bike conversion kit trick, the hub motor trick is worth over $2000 and now with the motor and battery another $1000
I am cautious about parking it even though its locked and chained down, someone might try and take the battery or hub motor controller off.

After all this hard work I’ve done with the bikes I think I need to celebrate this.

I have a bracket under the seat with enough space to mount the plate and battery I think
that’s where they had one on another hub motor bike conversion kit at the where I bought the bike conversion kit from it was a low power motor and only 10ah lithium battery.
It would not pull the bike until you got moving about 5mph.Does the slipping plate come with the lithium battery case?

The hub motor they had on the electric bike at the shop was only 250w, 36v, it didn’t have enough torque to push the e-bike till you got it moving along with the pedals.

bike conversion kit help

Q:I bought the 1000 W bike conversion kit 8 years ago in your company. Today the hub motor broke. Initially there was some creak in the motor at a high current. Then unexpectedly the motor had slowed down with strong vibration. Now the throttle does not work and the motor rotates hardly.
Could you help me?

A:Please check three pairs of motor and controller.(Heavy Yellow, green and blue)
When you ride, only one wire loose,it will be strong vibration.
Generally the controller is broken.
Remove motor wires from controller.Make three wires(yellow, blue and green)NOT touch together.Use you hand to rotate motor easy.If need more info, please visit https://www.leafbike.com/ site.

Q:I found the fault. It was due to a short circuit between two phase wires in the area of them connections. I made too weak isolation.
Thanks a lot, Peter!

E-bike Not work – electric controller issue or hub motor?

Riding an electric bike is a funny thing.Sometimes, while riding happily,it stop working and can’t re-start.
If you think your lithium battery is new, can’t cause this issue. Now you should check controller or bike motor, how to check?

If you have volt meter, you could measure as below? So that you can make sure the problem comes from controller or motor
If you can get the same data as below 1, that means controller’s everything is good
If you can’t get the same data as below 2,some hall senor has problem.

1. Connect all wires, power on.Just disconnect that white big plug with five wires( yellow, blue, green, red, black)
Then measure controller’s hall sensor:
* The voltage of red and black is about 5.0V
* The voltage of yellow and black is about 5.0V
* The voltage of blue and black is about 5.0V
* The voltage of green and black is about 5.0V

—————————————————————————–
2 Connect all wires, power on.Also, connect that white big plug with five wires( yellow, blue, green, red, black)
Then measure motor’s hall sensor:
* The voltage of red and black is about 4.5V
* The voltage of yellow and black is about 4.5V or 0V (when use hand to turn motor, the voltage will change from 4.5V-0V-4.5V-0V)
* The voltage of blue and black is about 4.5V or 0v (when use hand to turn motor, the voltage will change from 4.5V-0V-4.5V-0V)
* The voltage of green and black is about 0V or 4.5V (when use hand to turn motor, the voltage will change from 4.5V-0V-4.5V-0V)

P1:46 (This hub motor has 46 pcs magnet, can’t set to other,it’s used to display correct speed)
P2:0 (That is low speed motor — without gears inside motor)
P3:1 (With pedal assist)
P4:0 (Start from 0 speed)
P5:15 (24V be 9; 36V be 12; 48V be 15)

Q: Great. After setting this P1, the hub motor works well. Correct, 40mph. Nice electric bike kit.
